Wow, just a little over one month from my first entry. Somehow we have pretty much knocked out this emergency fund. We have never had a savings before in our lives. Yet in a month we have managed to scrounge together almost $1000. Definitely not by our own abilities that is for sure.
It’s like money just rained from the sky. God? Divine intervention? Yup.
We met with the instructor this week after class for some guidance because we have really been struggling with wanting to tithe and give back to God what is His but being pretty darn sure that the numbers say it is impossible. Like down to the cent. 500 should go to church- oh hey, we are over budget 550. Whoops. No money for you God. (Was our thought process up until now.)
However, I have felt very convicted about this for a long time and want to give to God what is His. Our instructor had a great point. She said that we needed to be giving because that is what we feel lead to do, not out of obligation. She said that when she and her husband first began the class, they were exactly where we are now, over budget, in need of extra income and just surviving. She said that they began to tithe because that is what they felt lead to do and even though mathematically it shouldn’t have worked, it did. There were trails and scary times but they stayed faithful with their tithes and everything worked out.
As we were driving home, my husband says, “I feel like we should just do this and have faith. I think by not tithing we are not trusting Him. We have tried to do things our way for a long time and it hasn’t worked so I think we need to give to God what is his. I don’t know how to explain it, but I just think we should.”
My heart leapt in joy. Finally! We are acting like a married couple. God is so good. So good. I wish that we had done this five years ago. We already have a list of 5 couples we want to give this class to. It is worth every cent and more.
Yes, Dave Ramsey is a good sales person but the thing is that this works. We haven’t even finished and it has changed our lives, quite possibly saved our marriage and our faith. Thank you Dave Ramsey. Thank you Jesus.
